How to Write a Bridal Shower Invitation: Wording, Format and Tips

Not sure how to word a bridal shower invitation? This guide covers everything — what to include, how to phrase it, and how to match the tone to the occasion.

How to Write a Bridal Shower Invitation: Wording, Format and Tips

The bridal shower invitation carries a lot of weight — it introduces the event, sets the tone, and gives guests everything they need to attend. Getting the wording right doesn't have to be stressful. Here's a practical guide from salutation to RSVP.

## What to Include

Every bridal shower invitation should cover:

1. The bride's name — her first name is enough for informal showers; full name for more formal occasions

2. Host names — traditionally the maid of honour and bridesmaids, but this is entirely flexible

3. Date and time — including a clear start time; end time is optional but helpful

4. Venue name and address — including suburb and postcode

5. RSVP deadline and contact — name, phone number, or email

6. Any practical details — dress code, parking, gift registry information (sometimes on a separate card)

7. Theme or dress code — if the shower has a specific theme

## Common Wording Pitfalls to Avoid

Vague RSVP instructions: "Let us know if you can come" is not a real RSVP request. Be specific: "RSVP by [Date] to [Name] at [Phone/Email]."

Missing the address: Easy to forget if you've been planning digitally. Always include a full street address.

Registry information on the main invitation: Etiquette traditionally holds that gift registry details should be included on a separate insert card rather than printed on the invitation itself. In practice, this is widely ignored — but if you're sending to guests who value formality, a separate card is the respectful choice.

No end time for guests who need to travel: If some guests are coming from out of town, including an approximate end time ("the shower will conclude at approximately 2pm") helps them plan.

## Format Options

Printed card: An A5 or A6 card is the most classic format. Printed invitations have more impact than digital for formal or older guest lists.

Digital (PDF or graphic): Sent via email or WhatsApp. Perfectly appropriate for most modern showers and makes RSVP tracking simple.

Canva link: Some hosts share a Canva-designed graphic directly, which looks beautiful on any device.
